TECHNICAL INFORMATION

A semi durable flame retardant for polyester, cellulosic fibres and its blends.

GENERAL PROPERTIES

  • Gives a semi durable flame retardant finish on textile made from polyester, cotton, regenerated cellulose, jute and polyester/cotton blends.
  • Meets the requirements of the Furniture Regulations Schedule 3, using BS 5852 Crib 5 on cotton interlining after a water soak according to BS 5651.
  • Is compatible with fluorochemical resins together with selected extenders for water and oil repellent effects.
  • Passes the cigarette and match ignitability tests with BS 5852 on cotton after a water soak.
  • Gives a full soft handle.
  • Does not cause corrosion.
  • Shows no after-glow effects.
  • Can be used in coating applications

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

Appearance Clear liquid
Chemical Constitution Ammonia urea compound
pH Approx 6
Density (20°C) Approx 1.25 g/cm3
Solubilty Dilutable with cold water in all proportions.
Storage Can be stored for at least 24 months in closed containers at ambient temperatures

SPECIAL ADVICE

  • The flame retardant finish is capable of withstanding a water soak but is not resistant to a machine washing cycle.
  • For Crib 5 ignition source requirements heavier fabrics above 200g/m2 are recommended.
  • The fabrics should be well prepared in order to achieve full penetration of flame retardant.
  • The treated fabric must be fully dried prior to the baking stage in order to avoid loss of chemical.

PROCESSING

Flamgard UCR should be added to the bath with continual stirring..

Drying is normally carried out between 120-140°C.

APPLICATION

The following guidelines are suggested to attain a flame retardant effect: -

Vertical burning test:- DIN 54336

Cellulosic Fibres
Approx. 250 g/l Flamgard UCR
Pick-up 80%
Drying 120 - 140°C (dry loading 11-14%)
Polyester / Cotton
500 - 600 g/l Flamgard UCR
2.0 - 3.0 g/l Deterol JR (wetting agent)
Pick-up 70%
Drying 120 - 140°C (dry loading approx. 25%)
Polyester
300 - 400 g/l Flamgard UCR
2.0 - 5.0 g/l Deterol JR (wetting agent)
Pick-up 70%
Drying 120 - 140°C (dry loading 12 - 17%)
Baking 150° - 170°C x 3 - 2 minutes

Upholstery finish to BS 5852

450 g/l - 600 g/l Flamgard UCR
2.0 - 3.0 g/l Deterol JR (wetting agent)
Pick up 70 - 80%
Drying 150°C - 120°C
Baking 150° - 170°C x 3 - 2 minutes

For Coating application, we recommend to use 10% of Flamgard UCR on the total quantity of coating paste. This can be adjusted higher or lower depending on requirements.
